Vehicle GPS Tracking System

An electronic device installed in a vehicle. The devices enables tracking of the vehicle's location. Most use GPS. GPS vehicle tracking helps police track down stolen cars. Some services also allow real-time tracking using desktop or web software, so that fleet owners can track the position and speed of their vehicles.

Active GPS Fleet Tracking

Active GPS devices relay location, speed, heading and other data, usually via a cellular modem, in real time or near real time.

Passive GPS Fleet Tracking

Passive GPS vehicle tracking uses a device that stores location, speed, heading and other data for later download and use.

Global PositioningSystem (GPS)

The Global Positioning System, usually called GPS, is a network of more than 24 GPS satellites. These satellites broadcast timing signals, via radio, to GPS receivers. These signals allow a variety of devices to pinpoint their location, regardless of weather or location.
