GPS tracking catches unsuspecting criminals!
While GPS is used for navigation, fleet and weather tracking, one of the best things it does is catch criminals.
How would you like your Christmas present stolen the day you got it?
It happened to Salt Lake City resident Mike Petty, who woke to the revving engine of his Sportsman 800 ATV. After an unsuccessful chase, Petty filed a report with police. Then, he remembered his ATV had been equipped with a GPS tracking system.
Petty logged onto his computer and pinpointed his ATV’s position via satellite imagery to a garage behind a house less than two miles away. He contacted local police, they went to the location, arrested the perpetrators and recovered the ATV two hours after its theft.
In another recent case in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Brown Bros had a brand-new CAT skid steer stolen over the weekend, but it was equipped with a Vehiclepath GPS tracking unit.
Within minutes of noticing the theft, a project manager went online and located the stolen skid steer. He telephoned the police and gave them the exact location. They recovered the unit along with six other pieces of stolen heavy equipment valued at more than $300,000. The skid steer was back on the job site by noon.
Think about the valuable vehicles or other expensive items you own. If stolen, how much would you miss them and how much would replacing them cost? Wouldn’t it be nice to have the peace of mind that GPS tracking provides?
